Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams assist the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. These teams receive training and support from the BC Provincial Emergency Program and the Cowichan Valley Emergency Program.

Founded in 1962, Cowichan Search & Rescue members are trained in rope rescue, tracking, swift water, and ground and embankment searches. All members receive training in basic SAR techniques and first aid. Members can also train to become team leaders.

Founded in 1967, Ladysmith SAR volunteer members are professionally trained in Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR), Swiftwater and Inland Water Rescue. Members are on call 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
