[ARCHIVED] Construction Work Near Burnum Water System

In 2015 two properties off Northgate road were included into the Burnum water service area with the property owner’s intention to connect the lots to the Burnum water system and later develop the properties into smaller parcels.

The inclusion into the service area received approval due to the following:

  • Both properties have a well that met all the water requirements of the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines with the capacity to supply the newly created lots with the required water supply
  • As the existing production wells in Burnum have water quality issues with elevated arsenic levels the connection of the two new wells to the existing water supply systems will improve the  water quality.
  • The existing production well #3 has an arsenic treatment system in place and the arsenic levels are now consistently below the maximum allowable level as set by the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines.  The new wells will bring the arsenic level even lower with the blending of the higher quality water.
  • All construction costs for installing the watermains and developing the new wells were paid by the developer
  • A connection fee of $17,000 per lot was paid to the Burnum water system at the time of inclusion into the service area.  A further $17,000 per lot will be paid at the time of subdivision for each for the newly created lots in the proposed development.
  • Construction of the waterlines from the new wells to the Burnum water system is currently taking place;  once complete the lines will be tested  and the wells will be tied-into the Burnum water system.
