Bald Mountain sewer system is located between Youbou and the Town of Lake Cowichan, on the Cowichan Lake in Electoral Area I. The facility services 132 residential properties.
The treatment plant is a membrane bioreactor (MBR) plant producing Class A high quality effluent.
The treatment works include two membranes with provisions in place for future additional treatment. Discharge from the UV disinfected effluent goes into the ground by means of two large infiltration basins.
Critical equipment is monitored 24-hours a day for malfunctions (such as pump failures); if such an abnormality occurs an alarm is sent to the on-duty pager to alert CVRD staff for immediate response.
