Kerry Village Water System
Kerry Village Water System is located west of Mill Bay in Area A. The water system services the Kerry Village mobile home park as well a neighboring residential development off of Briarwood Drive.
Source, Treatment and Distribution
A groundwater well pumps water to the treatment building where the water is treated with a sequestering agent for the treatment of manganese and iron in the water. The manganese and iron, if left untreated, can cause discoloured water but is not a health concern. The water then receives chlorine disinfection before being pumped to a 318 m3, below-grade, concrete water storage reservoir and is fed to the distribution system as required by the customers.
Critical equipment is monitored 24-hours a day for malfunctions, such as high or low chlorine levels or pump failures; if such an abnormality occurs, an alarm is immediately sent to the on-duty pager to alert CVRD staff for quick response.
The well supplying water to the system, unfortunately, does not provide the amount of water that it was originally reported by the hydrogeologist to produce. Options to bring more water to the system are being explored. One option is to bring the original well that supplied water to the system prior to 2012 back online. The well water has very high iron and manganese levels and treatment would be required. A pilot test using a Greensand filtration system was performed on the well in June, 2018 and, unfortunately the filtration system did not remove enough of the iron to meet the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines. Other options continue to be explored to provide long-term water supply sustainability to the system.
Kerry Village water system is sampled, at a minimum, once a week. The following table shows the sampling frequency and parameters tested for the water system:
Testing results can be found in the Annual Water Report completed each year.
Fee Structure
Kerry Village water system is not currently a metered water system. Customers receive user fees every six months and an annual parcel tax is levied on individual property taxes.
Annual Charges
*User Fees are mailed out to each customers on the billing date stated above.
**Parcel Tax is charged once a year and is incorporated into the property tax for each customer.

Kerry Village water system is sampled, at a minimum, once a week. The following table shows the sampling frequency and parameters tested for the water system:
Frequency | Parameter Tested | Laboratory |
Weekly | Bacterial (E.Coli and Total Coliforms) | Samples are submitted to the Island Health Authority for testing by a provincial laboratory |
Annual | Full spectrum analysis based on the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines. Sampling of the source and tap water is alternated each year. | AGAT Laboratories |
Testing results can be found in the Annual Water Report completed each year.
