Garbage

Garbage collection is currently available to single-family households in Electoral Areas D, E, F, G, and I. Garbage is not collected in Electoral Areas A, B, C, and H by the CVRD, but residents can access a private hauler and subscribe to a garbage collection service. Be Bear Aware and remember to place your totes at the curbside by 7:30 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. To ensure a successful pickup, read the tips on the curbside collection page.

What Belongs in Your Garbage?

Are you unsure if an item belongs in the garbage? It can be confusing to know what belongs in the garbage due to the CVRD's extensive curbside recycling program and the wide range of accepted recyclable materials at CVRD Recycling Centres. Have a specific material you'd like to dispose of? To learn about disposal options, type the name of the waste item into the Cowichan Recyclopedia search bar and choose the category it belongs to.

Beginning in 2023, single-use plastic items such as cutlery, straws, stir sticks and tape dispensers can be recycled in your curbside recycling tote or in the containers bag at CVRD Recycling Centres.
